With anything there are always drawbacks as well. One of the major ones with being able to download movies is that there are no bonus features or extra content. Those who like the commentaries, taken out scenes, bloopers or any of the other extras which come on Dvds will not get those. The other major downside with this is that the movie is only available on the device or in some cases just when there is an internet connection. If something happens to the computer or there is no internet, suddenly the movie cannot be seen, but with a hard copy it is always there. Digital access to movies is the direction the is headed.

While it perfect for viewers who know what they want, it is not as great for those who enjoy going to the video store and browsing the films, perhaps picking up something they may can’t you create otherwise knew existed. It does however work in the favor of independent filmmakers. Distributing a movie is a very costly process but utilize the internet, manufacturing and production costs drop to zero. For filmmakers there is a movement underway known as VODO, which stands for Voluntary Donations. Using expert to expert and torrent networks, they are able to distribute films at no cost to the filmmaker and viewers can download the movie and watch it legally for free, or make a gift to support independent filmmakers.
